I had planned on us wearing khaki's, polo's and casual skirts until Tate asked if he could wear his suit. Then he asked if Bill would wear his suit and suddenly we looked like we were headed to a big event. It turns out that we were. The first person who saw us asked if we were getting married. Nope. That was taken care of a long time ago. I thought we would walk into an office and sign a few papers. Then a judge would sign a few papers. Then would take a picture and leave. But that's not the way it was.
We were actually early, so we took a few pix to pass the time...
Then we met the lawyer and walked into a real, live courtroom. The first thing our lawyer said was "Your honor, I would like the court to note that this is the most nicely dressed sibling set I have ever seen." Good call on wardrobe, Tate. Then she told me to take the stand to testify. Testify? WHAT?! We had no idea this was part of the deal.
She asked me some basic questions about Rediet's background and then she asked me to tell the court about the relationship between our biological children and Luci. I got a bit choked up as I described the love between them. She then asked me to talk about my relationship with Luci May. At that point, it was providential that the court keeps kleenex on the stand because I was overcome with emotion. After I answered all of her questions the Judge asked "Do you love her?" I had to laugh and repeated his question incredulously. "Do I love her?!" More tears and then an emphatic "YES!"
Then it was Bill's turn. The lawyer asked him what motivated us to adopt and he got to articulate our foundation being our own adoption by God through faith in Christ. Then came the pronouncement and signing of the official documents. And it was official. Again. After the judge left, our lawyer asked to pray with us. So we gathered around Lulu in that court room and prayed together which was the perfect ending to a beautiful experience...

This is my favorite post to date! I had tears (of happiness) in my eyes!!!
Ditto on the favorite post to date. I remember with our daughter that feeling in the court room. I too thought that the judge would just sign a couple of papers and we'd be done, but it's so much more than that. It was a beautiful day and I'm sure going to hold each one of our child's adoption days in my heart as an amazing day. Thanks for sharing and you all looked beautiful!
Wow, that is a big deal!!! We getting get to do anything fun. Congrats! Love the outfits!
That is so nice you got to take pictures inside the courtroom. A friend of a friend had this same "official" adoption procedure done just two weeks ago in Lincoln and was told they couldn't take pictures. She was asked the same questions as you were and was also caught off-guard by them.
What a beautiful day, beautiful memories! Congrats!
BEAUTIFUL! What a wonderful experience. I had tears reading about it! You all looked beautiufl as well :)
Sounds like you had an awesome attorney too!

I stumbled on your blog via another blog. I love reading adoption stories.
What a beautiful day for your beautiful family!!
I'm moving to Nebraska - where they make big deals over big deal adoptions. We just dropped the paperwork off at the courthouse and they called us to pick it up after the judge had signed it.
But - I love seeing what a beautiful day your family had. And, I'm not jealous or bitter toward Texas.
at all.
okay...maybe a little.
But - yay for Nebraska judges and the Kollar family!
Congratulations! We still need to readopt E! Great pictures, too.
Oh, happy day!
YES!!! WE have been to court a few times...and sometimes they tried to "cut it short", but our lawyers have always let us testify....it is a beautiful thing! We get to stand up in court and say- YES to our children - again!!

Congrats on becoming officially official! ;) I loved reading your story and LOVED that the judge prayed with you! That is SO neat!! I also loved that you all dressed up! Everyone looked beautiful!!
Just looking at Luci makes me excited to get our referral!!! She is just adorable!!!
I meant to say that I loved that your lawyer prayed with you! Oops! Mom brain!! ;)
What a beautiful post. And what a tremendous testimony you were all able to give about our Lord Jesus.
Great post missy, also reminded me that we need to get on that re-adoption thing. If you can't dress up for that you shouldn't dress up for anything.
