We had decided this really wasn't the summer for a vacation. Before Gunga took her turn for the worse, we were thinking that we didn't want to leave her. And then after she died, things were just too crazy, both emotionally and otherwise, to get away. But we decided to attach a few days onto the aforementioned wedding celebration in Nashville in what turned out to be a very good decision.
First we had visits with old friends (the Lacher's) and new friends (the Johnson's). Then, we made a delightful new acquaintance in Franklin, TN. Her name is Sweet Cece's Frozen Yogurt. What a darling place...
We spent the night in Sikeston, Missouri at a Drury Inn with a pool...
The reason we stayed in Sikeston was just so we could eat Lambert's Cafe, the Home of the Throwed Rolls. It's kind of like a Cracker Barrel with down home cookin', but SO much better. Not only do they have 3 or 4 items that are "pass arounds" that they just come around to offer you, but they have a very fun claim to fame. They are not called "the home of the throwed rolls" for nothin'!They literally throw hot rolls across the room for you to catch...
Thankfully it was not a windy day. I have heard it sways in the wind and I do not believe my fragile self could have handled that. I was struggling enough to handle the sight of this...
Proving that we do plan our mini-vacations around food afterall, we had to have Imo's Pizza for dinner. We were running way behind schedule, so we had to eat it on the run...
We didn't realize how much our family needed this little getaway. Both the time with family and friends in Nashville and the food-inspired vacation were refreshing and fun in the midst of a summer that has been sad and not what we had been expecting. It wasn't much. There wasn't any of this...

So glad you were able to have a little fun this summer! We eat at Lamberts in Springfield, MO every summer on our way to Branson and we LOVE it too! I can't wait to see those sweet faces in school! They sure do brighten my day! :-)
Fun pics! We were just in St. Louis in June. Very familiar stuff - been in the Ork egg & eaten Imo's pizza.

Sounds like you had a blast! Hats off to you for going up the arch to begin with! I'm not a fan of heights, way to go!!! Missy can you tell me what products you use on Luci's hair-it looks so conditioned and luxourious(sp?)
We brought our 5 month old daughter home from ET about a month ago and her soft curls are starting to frizz. I've used hair milk and olive oil products but nothing I absolutely love. I have some items coming from "Carol's Daughter." Would love some advice!
What a FUN vacation! I'm glad it wasn't windy while you were in the arch, I was up there in January once and the sway was a little spooky, I was GLAD to get down! Looks like you guys had a great time - so glad!
I didn't enjoy the arch. I thought for sure we were going to die! ;)
It looks like you guys had lots-o-fun! I have heard that Lamberts is a blast!
So great! Love, J
I sooooo needed a vacation like that this summer, but it just didn't happen. No time.
I am glad you were all able to have a little R&R. It is something we all need from time to time. :)
aLooks like so much fun... we went to the Arch last year and I totally felt "wigged" out riding up to the top :)!
Looks like great fun! My parents went to Lambert's (Springfield one) also and wanted to experience the throwing of the bread.
Ready for school? Oh, I am so not.
I love that you planned a vacation around food. We should travel together because there is NO WAY I would cram into that tiny cart and head into the arch. I'm hyperventilating just thinking about it!!
So seriously, if you have site meter you may notice that you have had a daily visitor from Indianapolis for long durations. My girls LOVE the music you have on your blog. We throw the headphones on them and they go to town thinking they are playing on the computer! Thank you! :)
I remember watching the restaurant that throws rolls on the food network. Thanks for sharing this. I am so glad you got to share some time with your family.
