Happy Belated Easter from the Energetic Bunny...
And his peeps...
I struggle every Christmas and Easter to not get wrapped up in the opportunity for a gift-giving occasion, but to remember the gift-receiving we have in Christ's life, death, and resurrection. I want to lead my children well in the true nature of the holiday, but I get so excited to give them fun gifts and present them in cutesy ways that I can be easily distracted. This Easter was no different.
I spent a good portion of the day on Saturday shopping for the perfect, little gifts for the kids.
On the way out the door for church, I fussed over my son tucking in his shirt. His response, "I don't see why it matters to God whether my shirt is tucked in or not." He has a point.
I fussed at my children while trying to capture a precious memory of them in their Easter outfits I said rather gruffly, "Smile!". Actually, it was more than rather gruffly. It was full-out gruffly.
I spoke sharply to Bill when I heard fighting between kids as I was working on meal preparation.
We were talking with the kids the night before about what it means for our daily lives that the power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to us through His Spirit. I know one thing it can mean: getting everyone ready for church, taking pictures of my kids, and getting food ready for a holiday celebration are entry points for me to experience the truth of Easter, the beauty of the gospel. I don't have it together. My shirt is VERY much untucked, spiritually speaking. I have been rescued by Christ and He is rescuing me still. Many days, including Easter, I lose sight of Him and the beautiful truth that "He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him" (2 Corinthians 5:21). That is worth celebrating and it's not too late for me to do that today.

Missy - Will you be my friend??? I seem to have so many of the same issues you share and you are so good at stopping and realizing your shirt's untucked. Then, when I read your blog, I see my shirt's untucked, too...and I didn't even realize it!
Very well put!
It IS getting close! Crazy! Totally spaced it off; ever since you posted about Beyonce's Single Ladies, we've caught Paisley singing it every once in awhile. In fact, we were walking through DFW on the way to Disneyland and it was on the TV; Paisley stopped in her tracks and did the hand move. Hilarious!
I love your blog, Missy. Thanks for sharing this. I appreciate how you described your struggle with Easter. I can definitely relate.
Great post and Sooo true!! We're all "untucked" around here :) kj
