11 years ago today I got a new name.
Mom.
Here's the guy who first called me that...
My Tater Tot is 11 today. How can that be? Wasn't it just yesterday that I was in laboring in the hospital for 24 hours only to end up having a c-section? Tate was worth it all. The pain. The sleeplessness. Even the embarrassment of consistently telling people I had a "circumcision" instead of a "c-section". They both begin with "c". Easy mistake, right?
I remember back then how I really wanted to have a boy, but I was concerned about what he would be like from age 8-15. They all seemed so awkward and unfunny and smelly. How wrong I was! I thoroughly enjoy this kid! I love his questions. I appreciate his humor. I am amazed by his creativity. What a joy to know who he is now and watch who he is becoming.
He is my voice of reason. When I was considering buying Em a Jonas Brothers magazine he asked "Do you really want to encourage that?" Good point, pal.
He is my sentimental boy. Do we really need to save the bottle cap (Bud Light, no less) that you found on the beach in San Diego??? Yep.
He is my deliverer of one-liners. Mom: "We're going to have you guys start using your own money to give people presents". Tate: "Uh, don't be expecting very nice presents then, Mom".
P.S. Tate loves that he shares his birthday with my beloved Mother. She'll get her own post. You don't have to share birthdays in blog land.

Here he is trying to generate one of his favorite words: profit.

He is a delight.
So now I'm a fan of boys age 8-15.
At least this 11 year old one.
Happy birthday, pal. I love you and I like you too!

Hey Missy!
What a beautiful post. The pictures are awesome. I, too, have an "8-15" year old boy, and I have decided that the joy he brings me far outways the grief he also hands out from time to time.:)
It's not easy being 14, I was there once too, so I'll cut him some slack. lol
have a wonderful celebration day!
Happy Birthday Tate! Katie turned 11 two days ago and the celebrating continues. Hope you have a great day and weekend. Is your mom planning a disco 80's party for you? You probably have a little more say in your parties now. Whatever you do I hope you have a blast!
Happy Birthday Tate! They grow up too fast, don't they? Love the picture of you two on the swing :)
My 8-15 year old says "Happy Birthday!" to your 8-15 year old.
Happy Birthday!
Can I just say how fun all of your posts are AND all of your music? Every time I open up your blog I hear, "'gain?" from the background (again) because Hannah immediately starts busting a groove ;) We have to listen to about 2-5 songs before we can stop.
so sweet...What a fun age...I love birthdays..aren't they the greatest!! What a cute boy you have!!kristi
I had forgotten that Tate & Micah share the same birthdate, too. Happy Birthday!!!!
Hope your celebration was as exciting as Micah thought his was!
Sheri, David, Micah & Adria-in VN, still.
First of all, those are great photos, professional-looking! I had the same ambivalence toward boys 8-15, only it was more like 8-21. I didn't even care for little boy toys or clothes with baseballs all over the fronts of them. And I just was afraid of what it would really be like to raise one 24/7. My boy is my middle one, and turned out to be the easiest kid of all! I've read a lot of birthday tribute posts to kids, and I've written several of my own, and I will tell you that yours is the best I've read because of the detail and humor you injected with just enough Mom sentiment. This post is a priceless piece of family history for your children. Well-done, Mssy--on the post and on the boy!
Miss- I still marvel at how beautifully similar my family is to yours. Josh was my mom's first son, and she loved him, and .liked. him, in ways very resemblant of you and Tate. I loved his comment, "Are you sure you really want to encourage this?" So classic. What a thinker! I'm proud of you and Bill for raising such a great boy!
I absolutely love reading your blog. You make me laugh every single time! :) It makes me miss Lincoln a lot! I hope your birthday season has been very fun!
how sweet! made me cry! i can't believe how fast these little guys grow and want to freeze mine. :)
happy bday tate!
Hi Missy! I love your post - it's reassuring to know boys that age can be sweet and funny! Try to email or call me again - I'd love to have you come over!
